Lamar County School System is committed to protecting the safety, health, and welfare of all students, staff, and visitors on our campuses. We are fortunate to have armed, full-time law enforcement officers on our campuses at all times, and they reside in close proximity to Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and Barnesville Police Department. We constantly review and update our security procedures and facilities. We held a productive meeting with law enforcement again this morning to review current policies and plan our crisis response. A few things everyone can do to help:

·         #1 “If you SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!” In almost all crisis situations, warning signs exist prior to the event. Observant, informed, and alert communities play a critical role in keeping us all safe. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement or school staff. Call 911 in an emergency.

·         Keep your school contact #’s current. As a school district, we use our “all-call” system to communicate with all students, families, and staff in a timely manner. In the event of an emergency, this is the best way for us to communicate with everyone quickly and effectively. Make sure your child’s school has all current phone numbers to reach you.

·         Be sure your child knows and follows safety procedures. Our schools regularly conduct safety drills (Fire, Severe Weather, and Lockdowns). To be effective, we need the support and compliance of all participants.

While we do not publicize our safety plans or procedures, rest assured Lamar County School System continually works to improve practices, resources, and training, to promote and maintain a safe and secure campus.

Thank you for your continued support.
